Sexual Health Q & A

How often should I get a screening for my sexual health?

Men and women who are sexually active should receive screenings on a regular basis.

Dr. Dalvi recommends sexually active women receive a Pap smear every three years. A Pap smear is a comprehensive screening of the female reproductive system to identify signs of cervical cancer development.

In between Pap smears, Dr. Dalvi recommends seeking an annual checkup to look for sexually transmitted diseases. Dr. Dalvi takes a sample from the inside the vagina to test for common STDs, such as:

  • HPV (human papillomavirus)
  • Chlamydia
  • Gonorrhea
  • Syphilis
  • Herpes
  • Trichomoniasis
  • HIV/AIDS

For men who are sexually active, getting screened for sexually transmitted diseases once a year is a great way to get ahead of these diseases and seek treatment before it spreads further.

Those who have more than one partner or who have casual sex with partners they don’t know well may benefit from more regular screenings. In these cases, the CDC recommends every 3-6 months.

When should I get a physical exam?

Physical exams are different than STD and cancer screenings, but they can be vital to your sexual health. Physical exams can be spaced farther apart than sexual screenings.

Men and women should receive physical exams every 3-5 years before they reach the age of 30. After 30, Dr. Dalvi might recommend more frequent checkups.

What treatments do you offer for improved sexual wellness?

Purple Lotus Aesthetics is happy to provide platelet-rich plasma therapy (PRP) to women looking for improved sexual health and wellness.

PRP can improve:

  • Clitoral sensitivity
  • Sexual stamina
  • Urinary incontinence
  • Vaginal lubrication

To perform PRP, Dr. Dalvi draws some of your blood and places it in a centrifuge to separate the platelets from other blood cells. Then, he injects the PRP in two places: the clitoris and the area between the urethra and the vaginal wall. By using your own blood, your body can better promote healing.

PRP is a simple, safe, and reliable treatment. It’s also a quick procedure, often taking less than an hour from start to finish. With little recovery time and immediate results, this can be an excellent treatment for women who suffer from low sex drive, incontinence, and sexual dysfunction.
